The project ‘Connecting Arts and Humanities Infrastructures for AI Capability’ directly supports UKRI’s priorities on Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabling data and infrastructure and on AI transforming Arts and Humanities (A&H) research by connecting A&H data services with inspectable, AI-augmented workflows and routes to national compute.
At the same time, the project’s work with heterogeneous cultural datasets, where provenance is contested and representational bias is documented, will produce transferable evaluation and governance practice across domains.
The project aims to drive the development and wider adoption of Artificial Intelligence capabilities across the UKRI Digital Research Infrastructure through an experimental, coordinated approach within the A&H domain.
The project has two complementary objectives. First, the project will prototype infrastructures that embed AI as a research tool linked to high-quality datasets. The project technical solution for a minimum viable product will build on an existing proof of concept (PoC) for connecting data services funded by The National Federated Compute Services Network Plus (see: https://github.com/kingsdigitallab/nfcs-poc and https://kdl.kcl.ac.uk/projects/federation-of-compute-and-infrastructures-in-the-arts-and-humanities/), and will align with recommendations produced as part of the final report (see https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18350211). To support this, the project aims to develop appropriate collaborations and community engagement to support a coordinated, inclusive approach.
